Book Your Chimney Inspection With Us for an Accurate, Thorough & Honest Assessment
If you have a chimney system of any kind, chimney inspections should be done annually to ensure everything is functioning normally and safely. Here at 603 Chimney & Dryer Vent, LLC, we’re dedicated to ensuring folks throughout Southern New Hampshire get accurate and thorough chimney inspections and that all of their questions are answered throughout the process. We do this by following the NFPA 211 Standard for chimney inspections, which we’ll talk about in more detail in just a minute…
What to Expect From Us During a Chimney Inspection
So, what will an inspection from us look like? Well, rest assured that we’ll treat your property with the care and respect it deserves. We’ll start by setting up all of the appropriate protective equipment – tarps, protective coverings, etc. – necessary to ensure your home and belongings stay mess-free and safe.
Then, we’ll perform one of three types of inspections, as defined by the NFPA.
- Level 1 Inspection: In a level 1 chimney inspection, all areas that can be accessed without the use of tools will be examined. The sweep will look for basic soundness of the structure, and they’ll ensure nothing is obstructing the flue, such as excess creosote buildup, animals, or other debris.
- Level 2 Inspection: Level 2 inspections are more comprehensive. They include everything in a level 1 inspection, with the addition of a video inspection. The sweep will essentially snake camera equipment up the flue to get an up-close and in-depth look at every element of your system. Your sweep may also use appropriate tools to open doors or panels to get a closer look at potential issues.
- Level 3 Inspection: In extreme cases, certain parts of the chimney, like the crown or a chimney wall, need to be removed to discover hidden issues. This would constitute a level 3 inspection. These are rarer and done only when absolutely necessary.
What type of inspection you need just depends on your unique situation. For instance, if you are diligent about booking your annual inspection every year, it’s likely that a level 1 inspection will be all you need.
However, if you’re selling or buying a home, you’ll definitely need a level 2 inspection. Other scenarios that warrant level 2 inspections include lightning strikes, chimney fires, and natural disasters, such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, etc.
And level 3 inspections are typically only done when the causes of your issues aren’t revealed with a level 2 inspection. They’re more of a last resort when nothing else has worked.
Once your inspection is complete, we’ll share our findings, offer recommendations for any further maintenance (if necessary), then move forward with a plan that works best for your schedule, budget, and overall preferences.
